Shoot Seven

We originally believed that we had finished filming however during editing we realised we did not have enough shots of the band all together. This lead us to go back and shoot again. During this we decided that we wanted to use more camera movements and give the video a lot more character with a lot more going on so that the audience would not become bored. We also realised that we did not film the guitar solo which we was puzzled with how we going to make it look as if charlie could play the guitar even though he had never picked up one before. Then used a dolly to track in as he started to play and decided to cut it up with the rocky scene to speed up the pace of both scenes.

Shoot Six

This is where we filmed the fight scene.  We already knew the location we were going to use before we even started shooting so there was no problem with this. However, we did not like the way the fight scene was made in the storyboard so we decided to improvise on the day. This did not work out as planned and led us not to get what we wanted due to the fact that we had problems with the lighting as we were filming in a tunnel. This lead us to move the camera from under the tunnel however as we started to film outside of the tunnel the sun started to go down leading us to stop filming. During editing however we felt as if we had enough shots to make the fight scene, which we did and which is now the final piece.

Shoot Five

This was the first time we shot us as a band together which was the most difficult thing to shoot due to the fact that none of us knew how to use the instruments or at least make it look as if we could. Not only did we have an issue with the instruments, we also had the problem that every time I hit the drums Harry could not hear the beat of the song and therefore could not sing along with the song. We then decided that I had to pretend that I was hitting the drums, yet make it look as though it was the real thing, which was a difficult task in itself. Furthermore, during this shoot we found a table that had wheels on it so we decided that if we put the camera on top it would make a good dolly, which it did, creating very smooth tracking shots and which, I feel, ended up becoming some of the best shots of the whole music video.

Editing Music Video

Editing the music video has been a challenge as it has been hard trying to sync up the music with Harry's, our lead singer, voice to the the actual song itself. It has also been hard trying to decide whether or not the video fits with the song whilst trying to fit Goodwins theory of syncing the beat of the music with the pacing of the video. I also had problems trying to make charlie look as if she was actually playing the guitar so i had to make sure i had something to cut away from so that it would sell to the audience that he actually knows what he is doing.

Fourth Video Shoot

During this shoot we had to use my Grandad's shed due to the fact that there is a gym in there with a punch bag. We originally was going to film my younger brother turning into me whilst running however we felt as if there was enough running scenes so we decided to film my brother punching a punch bag whilst the camera pans to the left and the pans back to the right and it turns into me. However we had issues with the lighting whilst trying to do this so we decided to use a simple cross fade which we felt fit better with the pacing of the video aswell.

Third Video Shoot

Before we filmed this shoot we had to find places which had stairs that were big enough and looked as if they were the same steps that Rocky ran up in Philadelphia. We wanted this look due to the fact that music videos typically follow Goodwins analysis of intertextual references so we thought it would fit if we would film the Rocky scene seeming that our video is a training sequence. We eventually found the right place where we should film, which was Crystal Palace park. We felt that the steps were the right size and looked exactly how they do in the film. However, whilst shooting this it had rained the previous night which led to issues when it come to me trying to run up the steps without slipping. We then started to film from different angles with different camera movements, however we did not feel as if it felt right so we watched the running scene in Rocky and decided to shoot it shot for shot.

Second Video Shoot

This video shoot was particularly difficult to film as we had to work with my little brother which was hard for us and him as he wasnt too sure what he had to do due to the daunting of being filmed. However we sorted this out eventually and came up with various camera techniques that we could use to make sure that the running scenes did not become boring or too repetitive. During shooting Charlie brought his car which led us to get adventurous with some of the shots such as shooting from the perspective of a driver and using the car to do tracking shots as my younger brother ran.

First video shoot

During this shoot we had many problems trying to figure out where we wanted to film some of the running scene, this then meant that time was wasted when was trying to film on a limited time. We could not decide as to whether or not we wanted a more of a urban looking area or a modern area we then decided to go for something that looked like it was in between both. Whilst we was shooting we took a range of different shots as we did not know the look and style that we really wanted for our music video so decided to shoot as many different styles as possible and then decided what we felt fit the most during editing.
